"Dirty Arab. Sold out." In Montpellier (34), a tram driver insulted, threatened and injured in the stomach by an Algerian armed with a "pickaxe", known to the police

A tram driver on line 1 was assaulted on Monday, July 21, at around 10 p.m., at the Mosson station in Montpellier. As he and a colleague were about to take over, he was violently accosted on the platform by a man who insulted him profusely in French and Arabic, calling him a “dirty Arab,” a “sellout,” and threatening to kill him. The assailant also reportedly shouted that he was going to “stand him up.”

The situation suddenly escalated when several witnesses shouted the word “mouss,” which is believed to mean “knife” in Arabic. The driver, a 42-year-old Algerian, then saw the man charging at him with a weapon in his hand. He tried to dodge and overpower him, but the attacker still managed to strike him in the stomach. Fortunately, the injury was not serious.

After fleeing, the alleged perpetrator, aged 29 and also of Algerian nationality, was quickly arrested by police officers from the anti-crime squad (BAC), thanks to the victim's precise description. The police found a "spike" on him, which he allegedly tried to get rid of upon their arrival.
